For my last GDT page for the All About Me blog, the challenge this week is This is the Soundtrack of My Life. Sounds like a good one, doesn't it?!Music is a powerful means of communication and has the power to cause emotions to well up within us. The emotional response can be varied: happiness, sadness, nostalgia, peacefulness, energy, festivity. This challenge is all about thinking of music that has been an important part of your life, your “soundtrack.” What speaks to you in a special way?
I chose the song Hanging By a Moment by Lifehouse. When my now husband and I started dating, that song was popular on the radio. And, because we worked at a radio station, my darling hubby (being in the production side of the biz), had access to songs before almost everyone else did.
One day, I came back to my cubicle and there lay a cassette tape (I know, ancient right?!) with a sticky note on it telling me to play it. It was a copy of a new song about to hit the radio: Hanging By a Moment by Lifehouse. To this day, we both still stop and listen if we hear the song.
And doesn't that song title make for a great title on a layout?! Love it! Hope you find time to play along with us over at All About Me. I really enjoyed my guest design team member time over there this month. And I plan to play along now that the time has ended. (Thanks, Melissa!!!)
Here is the song if you need a refresher or want to hear it.
I'm sure most of you would think that based on my bloggy demeanor that I am not one to get angry. And, actually, I'm not. I am one of those "quiet... quiet... still quiet... EXPLODE" types. Bad for the ol' ticker, I know, but it is who I am.
So, because of that, my first layout for my January Guest Designer spot for All About Me was kind of a toughie. Challenge #9: What Makes Me Angry is ready for you to play along with us. I finally decided that when I do explode, it's the little things that finally overwhelm me.
My layout is about the dirty dishes, the laundry, the LIFE that gets in the way of when I want to have fun. It's not necessarily an angry feeling always... sometimes more of an annoyance.
I have to shout out to my girl, Heidi!! She has been playing around with bubble wrap as a way of applying ink with texture to her pages. I finally tried it and LOVE it! See the blue dots? That is Tim Holtz blue distressing ink applied via bubble wrap!
See the white and black larger circles? That is all me... applied by my infamous toilet paper roll applicator (LOL).
Well, I hope you find some time to join us this month over at All About Me! The new forum is up, there are new, cool things set in place (see Monday's post from AAM), and we are having fun over there!
Love yourself a good Sketchy Thursdays sketch? I made one exclusively for AAM for January. It can be used on any challenge in January as your starting point if you are one of those peeps that just needs a sketch to get your mind going. It can be found on their site in the sidebar.
There was nothing like Nate's first Christmas. And I know that it meant way more to me than it did to him at the time. That's why this page is for the All About Me Challenge #7: Processing the Holidays.
For me, that first Christmas meant we had to have professional pictures taken for Christmas cards (hence the photo I chose to scrap). I had to have all new stockings that matched for the whole family. I had to have all of the special items in place ... under the impression of it all being for him. And it was. It was for him... but at the time, it definitely meant more to me.
What does a 6 month old know about baking 12 kinds of cookies? But I did it anyway! With him in the kitchen with me, all the while talking to him like he was frosting them instead of me. The silly things moms do!!
This page is also for the December sketch at Scrapfreak. It's a good one, so if you're a freak like me (smile), then head on over there and get your page done this month.
Thanks for looking! I really do appreciate those of you that read my blog!!
Supplies: Basic Grey Eskimo Kisses (pp), American Crafts Thickers (foam lettering), Evalicious (button flower), Making Memories (journal spot), K&Co. (chipboard), Vintage sheet music, Prima (pearls), white ink
Everyone has a turning point. I have a few... I moved to another state after college. The birth of my son was a huge turning point. My husband's job change has been a big one for our family. But, if I have to make a page about a turning point, it would have to be about having a space all my own.
Having my own scrap room has taken my love for art and creativity to a whole new level. Who I am now, my confidence in my own abilities, my love for this... it all rests in this space.
I made this page with two challenges in mind. The All About Me Challenge blog has the "Turning Point" prompt up for a few more days. Click on over there and play along! The Creative Type prompt right now is "Negative Space." I LOVE to make negative space pages, so I was all over this.
See those cool white rings? I used a toilet paper roll and an ink pad to make 'em. Yeah... I feel pretty smart (lol). I think it all turned out pretty cool, and I will definitely try this again.
Hope to see you over at these challenges. (And happy November!)
